Dirt work and grading in Lawton is mostly a water conversation. The city sits on flat ground along East Cache Creek, and when Southwest Oklahoma rain arrives it tends to arrive all at once. The spring 2025 storms made the point at full scale, with floodgates open at Lakes Ellsworth and Lawtonka and creek levels watched hour by hour on the east side of town. Most Lawton yards will never see creek water, but nearly every soggy yard, wet crawlspace and washed-out slope in town traces back to the same small version of that problem: grade that points water at the wrong thing.

Flat ground is comfortable to build on and lazy about draining. Water that lands on a Lawton lot doesn't have much natural fall to work with, so it obeys whatever grade the lot happens to have: toward the slab, into the low corner by the fence, or under the shop door. The fix is rarely dramatic. A few inches of fall built away from the foundation, a swale that gives runoff its own route, a low spot filled and feathered out, and the yard starts shedding storms instead of storing them.
We shape that with the skid steers and check it the way the rain will: by where the low line actually runs. Red clay helps and hurts here. Shaped right it sheds water fast; left dished, it holds a pond through a week of sun. Reading it is the judgment half of the trade.
The northeast and east sides of Lawton live closest to East Cache Creek, and properties on that side saw exactly what moving water does in the 2025 storms. Grading can't change the creek, but it decides what runoff does on your ground on the way there: whether a slope sheds in a sheet or cuts a gully, whether a drive survives, whether the backyard gives the water somewhere to go that isn't the back door.
Washout repair is steady work for us around Lawton. We rebuild the cut, compact fill in lifts so it stays, and reshape the ground above it so the next storm doesn't just reopen the account. Where the real answer is a culvert or gutters instead of a grade job, you'll hear that at the quote, because the cheap fix being the right fix is a fine outcome.
In town, the jobs are backyard regrades, lots torn up by construction smoothed back to mowable, and dirt placed for aprons and parking. Out in the acreage ring toward Flower Mound and the county line, it turns rural: building-site dirt, entrance approaches, low crossings and eroded lanes.
