The creeks across Cotton County drain to the southeast, toward the Red River on the county's south line. The Cache Creek bottoms grow thick with bur oak, live oak, Shumard oak, pecan, redbud, persimmon and American elm. Up out of the bottoms, grassland mixes with oak savannah across the rolling hills that surround the town. Walters sits right on the western edge of the Cross Timbers, which reaches into the eastern part of Cotton County.
The first Walters townsite sat on Cache Creek, and after a 1902 flood most residents moved just south. Ten years later, on August 28, 1912, Cotton County was formed from the southern part of Comanche County. It was the last county formed in Oklahoma, and voters chose Walters as county seat later that year. Ranching, wheat, cotton and oil stayed staples of the Walters economy through the twentieth century, the Oklahoma Historical Society notes.

One of the skid steers carries a hydraulic brush cutter, and a tractor pulls our brush hog across open ground. A gooseneck dump trailer behind a flatbed truck hauls rock and dirt for light dirt work and grading. That setup fits pasture brush, fence rows, small trees and stumps dug out whole on Cotton County ground.
We do not run a forestry mulcher, a dozer or a stump grinder. Big standing timber is past our equipment, and we will say so at the quote before any work is scheduled.
